12 Stops Along 12 South

If you’re planning a trip to Nashville, you may immediately think Broadway & honky-tonks. But 12 South is the real place to be. As put oh-so-eloquently by Google, 12 South is a “leafy residential neighborhood known for it’s bungalow-style homes, fine-dining restaurants, stylish designer boutiques and stores specializing in vintage guitars and quirky homewares.” Yep, sounds about right. Super ~trendy~, it’s where all the cool kids go to hang.

Sound like a good time? Well pack your bags and channel the hipster in you because here are my 12 must-sees:

ONE

Grab a cup of joe at Three Brothers Coffee. Okay you caught me, this one isn’t on 12 South, but it’s so needed to start your day off right. Plus bonus points if you can find the hidden alleyway mural. Anything for that perfect Insta pic.

TWO

Take a pic with the Nashville mural. I mean, duh. Can you even say you went to Nashville if you didn’t do this? Be that annoying tourist. Do it.

THREE

Sip on sweet tea as you peruse Draper James. In the true name of southern hospitality, and of course, keeping in brand, Reese Witherspoon’s southern style inspired store offers you a glass of sweet tea as soon as you enter the door. Yes, she’s just that classy. Also the prices weren’t bad. I’m impressed.

FOUR

Grab a donut at Five Daughters Bakery. Try flavors like cannoli w/ lemon ceream cheese, maple glaze & strawberry limeade. Three Brothers Coffee. Five Daughters Bakery. I’m sensing a trend here.

FIVE

Indulge in a Bloody Mary bigger than your face at The Flipside, featuring crab legs, tater tots, fried chicken, bacon, olives, pepperoncini, the biggest pickle I’ve ever seen in my life and cucumber. I kid you not when I say this is the best fried chicken I’ve had yet, and I’ve been living in Alabama for 8 months so that’s saying something. Also highly recommend coming on a rainy day- for a restaurant whose line usually wraps around the block, we waited 10 minutes. ScOrE.

SIX

Thrift shop to your heart’s content at Savant. What may not look like much on the outside is an absolute TREASURE TROVE on the inside. Two floors and endless rooms of vintage boots, jeans, military uniforms, records, furniture and so so much more. Without a doubt I could spend hours in here.

SEVEN

Grab some lunch at Edley’s. Personally didn’t get a chance to try this one (I ate/drank my weight as it was), but it comes highly, highly recommended as one of the best BBQ stops in the city.

EIGHT

Marvel at handcrafted gems at Judith Bright. A storefront that also doubles as an in-house studio, this jewelry is simple, quaint and sure to impress.

Reflect on how much you miss your life in LA at Franklin Juice Company. One word: ACAI. I can’t shut up about this fruit. Put it in a bowl with all the toppings and there really is nothing quite like it. Toward the north end of 12 South, this is a great place to stop for a pick me up mid-way through a day of shopping.

TEN

Browse Tennessee-inspired wedding decor ideas (biscuit mix, jam, bead oil, leather-scented candles, you get the idea) at Serendipity. I mean if this is not just the cutest little shop full of gift ideas and trinkets. Let me just tell you, I can do some damage in a place like this.

ELEVEN

Re-caffeinate at Frothy Monkey. This was the first place I visited on my first trip to Nash and it’s still one of my favs. I meaaaan have you ever seen a more beautiful avo toast & latte?!

TWELVE

Relax & unwind, heck get a little zen, at Liberation Yoga. Come to think of it, this might be something you want to start your day off with, especially if you’re going to be eating as much as I did, but there are plenty of daily classes/workshops to choose from.
