It’s date night in CNY, and you and your significant other are looking for something different to do. My first suggestion- leave the state and try somewhere else!! I’m probably biased, but I think your options become severely limited once the first snowfall hits. But, if your budget does not allow for an impromptu roadtrip, or you’re one of those people who actually likes the snow and cold (blows my mind), you’ll have to go to plan B.
Now if you ask me, Lights on the Lake is kind of a cop-out date. There’s not much of a difference between sitting in your house to avoid the bad weather or sitting in your car. But if you’re looking for a break from Netflix and chill, and pair Lights with something else (maybe dinner or drinks after??), it’s not a bad way to spend a Friday or Saturday evening (although I would recommend going on a weeknight, it’s much cheaper).
Growing up, my grandparents lived in Liverpool, so I’m quite familiar with the quick run into Heid’s for a hotdog and chocolate milk- buuuut if you’re looking for something a bit more classy, there are plenty of other options in the village, just a 2 minute drive from Onondaga Lake Parkway:
The Retreat (HIGHLY recommend. Just ate here the other day and they make a killer French onion soup)
AppeThaizing
Santangelo’s (I’ve gone here for a couple of big family get togethers, also highly recommend)
Canale’s Restaurant
Limp Lizard (Has a huge menu and great dive-bar vibe)
My friend Maggie and I tried Limp Lizard last night, and per usual, it did not disappoint. She ordered the Philly Cheesesteak and I got the Southwestern Salad, and the portion sizes were enough that we could have easily split one meal!
The wait staff was super friendly, and a little added fun fact, Monday night is trivia night- just another idea to keep in mind for a night out!
From here we went right around the corner to Lights on the Lake. Turn on 102.1 for some Christmas tunes or bring along your own Christmas playlist to really turn up the ambiance! Lights on the Lake opens as early as mid-November, but I definitely recommend going when there’s snow on the ground!
Closing January 8th this year, you still have plenty of time to grab your bf/gf or pull all of your friends together before they leave for break! Perfect way to end the semester and kick off the holiday season.
